2nd Quarter Homework Policy
Congrats on finishing up your first quarter of the 8th grade! As we enter the second quarter you are getting that much closer to high school! In an effort to prepare you for success at whatever high school you choose to attend, you may recall that my homework policy changes for 2nd quarter. Below you will find a summary of the homework policy in my classroom for the remainder of the year.
I will no longer be accepting late work. If your assignment is not with you in class when I collect it, it is considered late. It will be a zero in my grade book. You will also be required to call your parent/guardian from my classroom to let them know that you have missed the assignment and will be getting a zero. This will allow you to directly communicate with your parent and keep them in the loop on any missing assignments.
As you know, I have many safety nets in place for you to be able to find out what the homework assignments and due dates are. I have three main ways of giving you the info:
1.) I tell you orally in class what the assignment is and instruct all students to write that in their planner.
2.) I write the assignment and due date on the class agenda on the board in my classroom.
3.) I post the assignment, due date and an other pertinent info on this blog.
Please utilize the resources and safety nets that I have in place to ensure a successful second quarter!

Team Time Prefix and Suffix study
Create a comic strip putting together all of our work on prefixes and suffixes in science Team Time!
Be sure that your comic strip includes:
1.) What prefixes and suffixes are; how they are attached to root words to change meaning
2.) Explain why they are important in the science classroom. How can they help us understand the concepts?
3.) 3 examples of prefixes/suffixes that are used in science; include example words that will help to highlight what the prefix means.
You may use an online template from the below list; you may hand draw your comic or you may create a collage style comic!

Conclusion Questions from Exploration Lab "Tilted Earth"
Please be sure that you write a well supported answer to each of these questions. Use your concept map/science text book to help you!
Do you think a planet whose axis was NOT tilted would have
seasons? Explain your answer.
Many people think that the tilt of the Earth causes seasons
because it makes one part of the Earth much, much closer to
the Sun. When the North Pole is tilted toward the Sun, is the
Northern Hemisphere really much closer to the Sun than the
Southern Hemisphere? Explain your answer.
If you did not have a chance to do it in class, make sure that you create a diagram of the Earth/Sun relationship and label the seasons (along with solstice and equinox points). The diagram should be neat and on the back of your concept map, both will go in your class notes section of your notebook.
