Step One: Choose a city to specialize in from the jar. Find out what country it is in and continent it is on. Example: Continent/North America; Country/ Mexico; City/Mexico City
Step Two: Use the computers and textbook information provided to research and analyze the causes of climate and weather in your chosen country, (questions provided on back of this sheet).
Step three: Research common out door activities that people like to participate in the city of your choosing.
Step Four: Find out what the temperature and weather are for that city today, and the forecast for the upcoming week, (Use weather.com). According to your research on the climate of this area, does the current weather seem to be normal or abnormal for this city at this point in the year?
Step Five: Find or draw images of that city which show what the climate is like there and some of the important geologic features that are influencing the weather/climate. Example: situated in a valley, on the coastline.
Step 6: Put all of your information into a visually pleasing final Travel Guide to be shown to clients. You may choose to create a poster, a power point presentation, a brochure or website.
Guiding Questions for Research
1. City name/Country Name/Continent Name
2. What is the latitude of the city; How does this country’s latitude effect it’s climate?
3. What hemisphere is this city/country in?
4. Does this city experience all four seasons or just one or two? What months correspond to the different seasons?
5. What is the elevation of this city? How will the elevation affect its climate?
6. What is climate? How would you describe the overall climate of the city you are specializing in? Use scientific vocabulary when you can.
7. What important geologic features are in or near your city? Describe how each impacts the weather/climate.
8. Are there any water patterns or air patterns (ex: gulf stream, jet stream, trade winds, Santa Anna winds, etc) that influence the weather in this city? Name them and describe how each impacts the weather.
9. What is the humidity like in this area? Does it change throughout the year? What are the major factors that impact humidity?
10. What is weather? How is it different from climate?
