LT#14 pH


We began our investigation into the topic of pH this week. We will spend a small bit of time next class completing the lesson. Please remember that your To-Do list for LT#14 is due on the following days:

Period 1A: Due on Weds Feb 13
Period 2A: Due on Weds Feb 13
Period 4A Due on Friday Feb 15
Period 6B: Due on Thurs Feb 14
Period 7B: Due on Mon Feb 18

All Classes are responsible for the following work that we completed in class (if you did not finish please complete!):
Explore—Mystery Solutions pH Lab (30 pts)
-Complete the data table with accurate observations/data from your lab
-Analysis questions must be answered accurately utilizing the lab information as evidence to support your answers. Answers in Complete sentences.
-Create a Bar Graph to visually represent your data from the lab. The different solutions will be on the x-axis and the pH reading will be on y-axis. Please utilize good graphing techniques (use pencil, label, give your graph a title, be neat and organized!)

Explain—Vocab to Know notes from power point into Notebook.

Some Classes have different homework assignments, please make sure you are reading the correct assignment for your class period. (you already have this typed out on your To-Do List)

Periods 1A and 6B:
pH Gizmo(20pts)
-S.E.G. and 5 assessment questions
-Answers should be in complete sentences utilizing data from Gizmo as evidence when necessary and appropriate.

Period 2A:
Alien Juice Bar virtual lab (20 points)
Go to the website below and follow the instructions from the handout provided.

-All three challenges should be completed
-Accurate and complete answers provided for all questions
-All data tables should be filled in using data from website
-Venn Diagram should be filled in as accurately as possible with at least 3 properties and 3 examples for Acids and Bases. Info should be used from website and class notes

Periods 4A and 7B:
Teach Us About pH! (30 points)
Create a Powerpoint presentation, Prezi, or booklet to dig deeper into our Learning target on pH. In your teaching tool you should address the following questions:
-What is an acid and what are properties of Acids?
-What is a base and what are properties of Bases?
-What is the pH scale—Who/when was it created? How do I use it? (This should include some sort of visual with examples identified on the pH scale)
-What happens when acids and bases combine? Give some examples as well.
Your last slide/page of information should be an assessment of some sort, where students will have to read through your info to complete the assessment. (can be crossword puzzle, 5 question quiz or other creative assessment)

Rubric:
-All questions should be answered accurately in an easy to understand format.
-Material should be accessible/understandable to 8th grade students
-Assessment slide should be a reflection of info included in presentation. (Answer key provided)
-All websites or books should be cited on the last slide/page of your presentation.
